SunDANCE Cares: Emergency Infant Services

Emergency Infant Services began in 1977 to provide immediate emergency assistance to children. While other services existed for long-term assistance to children and families, Emergency Infant Services made it possible for families to get immediate help.

SunDANCE Cares Emergency Infant Services

The average family seeking assistance from Emergency Infant Services does so an average of two times. No appointment is required and there is no waiting period, which makes this a great solution for families who just need a little help in an emergency situation. Emergency Infant Services can provide formula, diapers, food, clothing, medicine and other basic human needs of infants and children under five years of age.

There is, unfortunately, a great need for this organization in the Tulsa area. One in five of Tulsa’s children go to bed hungry, and a third of families with children in diapers have difficulty affording them.

Why Tulsa needs Emergency Infant Services

Emergency Infant Services is a non-profit organization that relies on donations. 92 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to client services. You can help them by donating money, time, or items such as formula, diapers, baby wipes, etc. Visit their website to donate or to learn what items are needed the most. This organization helps more than 1,400 children each month.

SunDANCE has chosen to help Emergency Infant Services this month as a part of our SunDANCE Cares program. We are donating 1% of all orders place on March 28, 2016 to this Tulsa organization. Help us help our community by placing an order or by donating directly to EIS!

The mission of Emergency Infant Services is to meet the basic human needs of infants and children, five and under, whose families are in crisis or emergency situations. Our priority is to assure that infants and young children do not suffer during difficult times when their parents are unable to provide infant formula, milk or food.

SunDANCE Cares: Fighting Homelessness and Hunger

fight hunger and homelessnessHelp fight homelessness and hunger by supporting John 3:16 Mission. SunDANCE Cares will focus on this charity for the month of January. One percent of all orders placed on January 25, 2016 will be donated to John 3:16 Mission.

John 3:16 Mission strives to meet the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of homeless and at-risk men, women, children, and families of the Tulsa area. The need for this type of service in Oklahoma is urgent. An estimated 44,000 children in Oklahoma are homeless. Nearly a quarter of Oklahoma’s children live in poverty. One in six Tulsans face food insecurity on a daily basis.

homelessness and hunger

In addition to many other services, John 3:16’s first mission is to provide food. They aim to provide hope to the hungry. They distribute food baskets monthly, operate a food pantry once a month, provide thousands of Thanksgiving food baskets, and provide a Thanksgiving banquet. The mission serves hundreds of meals on a daily basis, as well.

“for many people, their first experience with the Mission comes about because they are hungry. This basic foundational need, of sustenance, once met, provides hope. This is the power of one meal. One meal. Removing the obstacle of hunger and the wondering of where the next meal is going to come from provides a stability to begin to work on their other needs. To show them the love of God through love, compassion, grace and relationship.”

End Homelessness, provide mealsJohn 3:16 Mission provides more than food. The other programs available include a clothing room, cooperative learning classes, men’s, women’s, and family ministries, shelter, and creative arts classes for children. The charity was founded in 1952 and has served more than 4 million meals and provided over 1 million nights of shelter since then. John 3:16 relies on donations. A person can be provided a meal and shelter for the small amount of $2.11. You can help fight hunger and homelessness by donating now, purchasing office supplies from SunDANCE on January 25, 2016, and volunteering to help (click the photo above for more information). According to their website:

” Our pledge to you is that your gift, however large or small, will be used to feed, shelter and care for the hungry, homeless and at-risk and to provide them life changing programs. In doing so, we adhere to the highest ethical standards and are committed to openness, accountability and financial integrity. John 3:16 Mission is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), is audited annually and files a Form 990 with the IRS yearly. The Mission has been a nonprofit, 501 c-3 since 1952.”

Loyal to Local!

localHere are our top 9 reasons why you should shop local with SunDANCE and other locally owned businesses!

1. We are invested in your community. Local businesses are subsequently more generous in their support of local charities, schools and community events. SunDANCE has a Help Us Help Tulsa event every few months that gives a portion of orders placed during a week to a local charity or non-profit organization.

2. Keeping the money local. The dollars you spend in locally-owned businesses have three times the impact on your community as dollars spent at national chains. Sales taxes fund our communities and provide vital services such as police and fire protection. Local businesses are more likely to shop with other local businesses, keeping money moving in our local economy even longer.

3. Environmentally friendly. Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers-which do not require long car and bus journeys, helping reduce our global footprint. Also, most local shops often stock a high percentage of locally sourced goods.

4. Jobs and Wages. Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some places, provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

5. Better Customer Care. Evidence from many surveys show people receive better customer care and service locally. These local businesses survive by their reputation and repeat business, which means you get a higher standard of service.

6. We are passionate about what we do. Local business owners do what they do because they are passionate about their products, and typically take more time to get to know their customers and needs.

7. Great products and affordable pricing. Many people are surprised by the range of products and gifts available at low prices in local shops.Local business owners often sell local products, which helps reduce cost and preserve the community’s distinction and creates more jobs locally.

8. Local decision making. Local ownership means that important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.

9. Better product knowledge and Expertise. Local business owners are well informed about their products and know what they are selling, which means you are getting an expert opinion on the products you are wanting to buy.

We all know the importance of shopping locally. Do you have a favorite local shop? National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day is March 29th so go to your favorite shop (or online at SunDANCE) and support your favorite!!
