Help fight homelessness and hunger by supporting John 3:16 Mission. SunDANCE Cares will focus on this charity for the month of January. One percent of all orders placed on January 25, 2016 will be donated to John 3:16 Mission.
John 3:16 Mission strives to meet the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of homeless and at-risk men, women, children, and families of the Tulsa area. The need for this type of service in Oklahoma is urgent. An estimated 44,000 children in Oklahoma are homeless. Nearly a quarter of Oklahoma’s children live in poverty. One in six Tulsans face food insecurity on a daily basis.
In addition to many other services, John 3:16’s first mission is to provide food. They aim to provide hope to the hungry. They distribute food baskets monthly, operate a food pantry once a month, provide thousands of Thanksgiving food baskets, and provide a Thanksgiving banquet. The mission serves hundreds of meals on a daily basis, as well.
“for many people, their first experience with the Mission comes about because they are hungry. This basic foundational need, of sustenance, once met, provides hope. This is the power of one meal. One meal. Removing the obstacle of hunger and the wondering of where the next meal is going to come from provides a stability to begin to work on their other needs. To show them the love of God through love, compassion, grace and relationship.”
John 3:16 Mission provides more than food. The other programs available include a clothing room, cooperative learning classes, men’s, women’s, and family ministries, shelter, and creative arts classes for children. The charity was founded in 1952 and has served more than 4 million meals and provided over 1 million nights of shelter since then. John 3:16 relies on donations. A person can be provided a meal and shelter for the small amount of $2.11. You can help fight hunger and homelessness by donating now, purchasing office supplies from SunDANCE on January 25, 2016, and volunteering to help (click the photo above for more information).
