Today is National Wear Red Day!!

Cardiovascular disease, such as heart disease and stroke, claim more women’s lives annually than the next four causes of death combined. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women is asking everyone to Go Red by wearing red, living a healthy lifestyle and spreading the message that heart disease is killing our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends.

This month we are doing a Help Us… Help Tulsa for the first Oklahoma build project for Operation FINALLY HOME. The project will benefit Staff Sgt. Ronny D. Sweger and his family, which includes wife Claudia and triplet boys Briggs, Brett and Brooks.
Operation FINALLY HOME is a national nonprofit organization that brings together home builders, building suppliers and supporters. Their mission is to provide custom-built, mortgage-free homes to wounded, ill and injured veterans, the widows of the fallen, and their families, creating a solid foundation to help them move forward in their lives.
A Well Deserving Family
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ronny D. Sweger joined the Oklahoma National Guard in March 1993. Sweger had multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa from 2001 to 2004. He incurred a number of injuries as a result of his seven deployments including PTSD, traumatic brain injury, loss of field vision and migraines. Sweger was eventually sent to the Medical Board for evaluation and medically retired from the military in December 2009.
A True American Hero
On Tuesday January 13th at the Tulsa Hurricane Basketball game the Sweger Family was awarded with their new home. It was very heartwarming to be there and witness the community rally around this family. Watch the video below to see how appreciative they were to hear the news.

The Route 66 Marathon made its inaugural run November 19, 2006, with the slogan “Let our first marathon be your first marathon.” The event attracted approximately 3,000 participants in marathon, half-marathon and relay-race events.
Tulsa Route 66 Marathon Inc. is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The proceeds from its events benefit the Tulsa Area United Way.
This year the race events will be the weekend of November 22-23rd. The events include a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K run and walk, fun run and walk, and a mascot dash.
There is also an option to do a Charity Challenge. The Charity Challenge provides an avenue for race participants, individuals and organizations to raise funds on behalf of an official charity partner. It also provides a platform for charities to raise awareness and educate others about their cause.

This is a fun way to get out in Tulsa the weekend before Thanksgiving and get that last bit of energy out before all the food gets eaten.
This month we are doing a Help us, Help Tulsa for the John 3:16 Mission. This is a great time to help out those in need in our city, as the weather is getting colder and the holiday season is near. Some of our fellow Oklahomans depend on The Mission for food, fellowship, and warmth.
Finding food is a big burden for the homeless in Tulsa (and worldwide). The Mission helps with that by many different avenues. One of those being food drives and the Thanksgiving banquets.
Many of us know that when it starts getting warm we have sweaters and coats in the closet that can help warm us up. That is not the case for many.
The Mission also has other programs to help around the Tulsa area.
