Spring Cleaning!

Spring - the season that brings many changes. Its warmer, rainier, allergies are in full force, and it is a great time to some cleaning. Spring Cleaning is one of those things that is good to do, but not always fun.

We have some tips and items to help get your spring cleaning kicked off.

First thing I like to do is to take everything off of my desk and give it a good cleaning. Get all of the dust bunnies out of the crevices and clean out my keyboard.

The next step for me is to go through all of my old files and throw away or shred what I no longer need or make new folders for things I do need. (I like to add some color with colored hanging folders.)

If you like your desk to be extra organized like me, then my next step would be to start putting things back in a organized way. Sometimes I even rearrange how my desk is sitting so I can feel like I am in a fresh place. I like to use many different types of desk organizers so I can keep my desk as clean and organized as possible. I love the clear options from Kantek.

My final step would be to add some personal touches to your area. Since you spend a majority of your day at your desk, it is nice to have some touches that make it feel more welcoming!

1. Use lightly patterned or solid-colored tape on tabs of folders, following your coding system.

2. To make flowers for folder fronts, cut triangular-shaped petals and place them in circles to create flowers. Cut leaf shapes, too.

3. Place flowers and leaves on folders.

A New Year always brings in new things. Paper, files, magazines, and receipts sometimes just flutter on from on year to the next. It is a good idea to help your sanity and to help get rid of some clutter if you get all of last years things all nice and organized.

Clean Out The Files

It’s important to take time once a year to purge the old to make room for the new. Ask yourself whether or not documents will be relevant to your work in the coming year. If not set those aside and make an archive file. Some files that you should go through are:

  • Desktop files
  • Client files
  • Financial files
  • Receipts
  • Reference files

I like getting new files for a new year so I can just transfer my old ones to our keep file drawer.

Take A Look At The Office

Office clutter can take over throughout the year - you get busy, create a few pile here, and a stack over there, and suddenly you are not able to see your desk! Go around the room and find a home for all of those piles and you will be able to see your desk in no time. Having an assigned space for everything makes it easier for you to maintain order throughout the year, and at the end of the day it will just take a few minutes to put everything away.
