Starting the New Year Organized

A New Year always brings in new things. Paper, files, magazines, and receipts sometimes just flutter on from on year to the next. It is a good idea to help your sanity and to help get rid of some clutter if you get all of last years things all nice and organized.

Organized

Clean Out The Files

It’s important to take time once a year to purge the old to make room for the new. Ask yourself whether or not documents will be relevant to your work in the coming year. If not set those aside and make an archive file. Some files that you should go through are:

  • Desktop files
  • Client files
  • Financial files
  • Receipts
  • Reference files

I like getting new files for a new year so I can just transfer my old ones to our keep file drawer.

OrganizedThese Smead file folders are awesome because I am able to color code my file drawer.

Take A Look At The Office

Office clutter can take over throughout the year - you get busy, create a few pile here, and a stack over there, and suddenly you are not able to see your desk! Go around the room and find a home for all of those piles and you will be able to see your desk in no time. Having an assigned space for everything makes it easier for you to maintain order throughout the year, and at the end of the day it will just take a few minutes to put everything away.

OrganizedMagazine racks are a great way to keep things in a specific place.

LLR37526This is another one of my favorites as I can keep things I am currently working on at an arms reach.

Make Some Plans

Plan what you would like to accomplish this year and write it done somewhere you see it everyday so you will constantly remind yourself what your goals are. The best part is you can do these things for your home and your work environment!

We hope everyone has a great 2015!

Post It Origami Heart Bookmark

The SunDANCE girls really enjoy reading. Some of us read e-books while the rest like the good old fashioned paper books. Who would have thought that you could use an ordinary office supply, the Post It note, to make an origami heart shaped bookmark to mark the page where you stopped!

Hearts

It was fairly simple to follow along with the video and it turns out really cute!

Hearts 2

I made some for everyone in the office and it did not take too much time. I placed mine on my new 2015 Planner.

National Banana Lovers Day

National Banana Lovers Day

Its National Banana Lovers Day! Did you know the average person eats about 33 pounds of bananas a year? That’s about 100 individual bananas a person!! Bananas are high in fiber and potassium. They can help prevent calcium loss, ulcers, high blood pressure, and certain kinds of cancer. Banana peels are also great for cleaning the scratches off those overused DVDs. The banana tree is actually an herb and the banana is the fruit of this herb.

National Banana Lovers DayBanana Boat Recipe

  • 4 medium unpeeled ripe bananas
  • 4 teaspoons miniature chocolate chips
  • 4 tablespoons miniature marshmallows
  • Cut banana peel lengthwise about 1/2 in. deep, leaving 1/2 in. at both ends. Open peel wider to form a pocket. Fill each with 1 teaspoon chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon marshmallows. Crimp and shape four pieces of heavy-duty foil (about 12 in. square) around bananas, forming boats.
  • Grill, covered, over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until marshmallows melt and are golden brown. Yield: 4 servings.

National Banana Lovers Day

1 (5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups cold milk
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (16 ounce) package vanilla wafers
14 bananas, sliced

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat pudding mix and milk 2 minutes. Blend in condensed milk until smooth. Stir in vanilla and fold in whipped topping. Layer wafers, bananas and pudding mixture in a glass serving bowl. Chill until serving.

What will you do to celebrate National Banana Lovers Day?

Smell The Roses! Post-it Style

POst-It-Roses

What a simple way to create something that will last for your desk! Now you can make beautiful lasting roses out of Post-It Notes! Follow these simple steps and share your roses with us! Spray your favorite scent on them to brighten your day!

What you need:

Scotch®Tape

Masking Tape

Post-it Notes

Green floral tape

Wire

Pencil

Cork

Scissors (and or utility knife)

Glue Gun

Roses1

Step 1: Print out this flower template (PDF), then cut out the flower and leaf patterns.

Roses2

Step 2: Trace the pattern onto your favorite color Post-it® Notes and cut them out. Trace 40 petals for the large rose, 35 petals for the medium, and 30 for the small. On the leaf-colored paper, trace 2-3 leaves per flower.
Pro tip: Position the paper so the V shape of the petal sits on the sticky part of the Post-it® Note. This will be helpful later!

Roses3

Step 3: Wrap the petals around a pencil (or roll them with your fingers) so they all curl cylindrically

Roses4

Step 4: Take a 6-10 inch wire, and wrap a petal around it (V side down), tight enough so that the wire doesn’t show. Secure the petal with hot glue.

Roses5-6

Step 5: Take another petal and wrap it a little looser than the first one around the stem (again, V side down). Secure with hot glue. Keep adding petals!
Pro tip: Move downward and distribute evenly around the rose when adding petals.

Roses6

Step 6: Once your blossom is set, glue or tape the leaf cutouts onto the blossom stem. You can give them a natural curl by wrapping them around a pencil.

Roses7

Step 7: Finish up by wrapping the wire with Scotch® Masking Tape first then covering it with green floral tape. Wrap carefully around the leaves!

Cain’s Ballroom Tulsa

Cains Ballroom Tulsa

Built in 1924 by Tulsa entrepreneur Tate Brady, The Cain’s Ballroom has gone from a garage, a dime-a-dance joint and a dancing academy until it became what is known by artists and patrons alike as one of the top performance venues in the world today.

Click here to see all the great upcoming shows at Cains Ballroom!

With downtown Tulsa booming it is never a dull moment in this town! Cain’s hosts shows for all ages and all types of music. Some of the most well know acts that perform all over the United States makes a point to perform at Cain’s. Tulsa has no issue packing out the house!

Cains Ballroom Tulsa

The highlight of the ballroom is a historic maple, spring loaded dance floor designed in a “log cabin” or concentric square pattern. Lighting the dance floor is a four-foot neon star and a silver disco ball. The walls are decorated with oversized photographs of various musicians who played Cain’s, including Bob Wills, Johnnie Lee Wills, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Tex Ritter, Kay Starr and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Between the portraits are black fiddle-shaped fixtures illuminated by a single red bulb.

Cains Ballroom Tulsa

Bob Wills was born into a family of fiddlers where he learned to play the fiddle and mandolin. As a young man, Wills performed at house dances, medicine shows and on the radio. On New Year’s Night 1935, he made his debut at Cain’s and the venue soon became known as “The Home of Bob Wills.”

As The Home of Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys from 1935 to 1942, the ballroom was especially significant for popularizing a new sound of western music called western swing, a form of country and western that combined jazz, hillbilly, boogie, blues, big band swing, rhumba, mariachi and jitterbug music. Weekly dances, a midnight radio show and a daily noon-hour program were played by Bob Wills during what are remembered as his “glory years.”

Bob Wills is remembered as “The King of Western Swing.” He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1978, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 for his significant contributions to American music from the 1930s through the 1960s. During his career, Wills wrote and recorded at least 470 songs, including “Take Me Back to Tulsa” and “San Antonio Rose,” and he influenced such artists as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Asleep at the Wheel.
